LEGO World Play Day

Yes, this is a blog about dating. Specifically, it is about an American widower in his fifties who moved to Ireland to find the next love of his life by unintentionally going on over 50 First Dates. But it is also a blog about LEGO! And on this day in 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter from Billund, Denmark, began making wooden toys. He called his company LEGO after the Danish phrase “leg godt” which means “play well”. While it took another 15 years for LEGO to create the interlocking bricks for which the company is now famous, The LEGO Group decided that 10 August is LEGO World Play Day. And they are celebrating their 90th Anniversary with a whole bunch of throwback sets.

I am using LEGO World Play Day to show off one of my creations – The Amusing Game of Kilkenny Cats built with LEGO. We will be playing this tonight for my weekly game night at a local pub. The game was created by Parker Brothers in 1890, and it is now in the public domain. Because of that, I will eventually publish a new version of the game.  It will not have these cool LEGO pieces, but it will have some amazing artwork of the beautiful medieval city that is my home.

Below are some more of my LEGO builds.
